Name Approval (If Required)

If your company name contains the word "Insurance", you must get name approval from the Mississippi Department of Insurance before registering with the Secretary of State.

  1. Download the Name Approval for Word Form.
  2. Fill out the form completely.
  3. Email the completed form to licensing@mid.ms.gov.
  4. Wait for approval before proceeding to the next steps.
This step is only required if your company name includes the word "Insurance." If it does not, skip ahead to registering your name with the SOS.

Register Your Name with the Secretary of State

  1. Go to the Mississippi SOS New Filings portal.
  2. Register your company name.

Set Up a Registered Agent

You will need a registered agent in Mississippi before you can register as a foreign entity with the Secretary of State. Ensure your registered agent is in place before proceeding.

Register as a Foreign Entity with the Secretary of State

Once your name is approved and your registered agent is set up:

  1. Go to the Mississippi SOS Foreign Entity Registration portal.
  2. Complete the foreign entity registration.
  3. Once approved, upload the confirmation to the InsureTrek attachment warehouse for the Mississippi state license.
